Messy play

About me

A game focused on the exploration of materials (soil, sand, clay, colors, etc.), sounds (impact, friction, stepping, etc. on objects that produce sound), scents (using different olfactory stimuli in the materials being explored, aromatic and natural scents), and images (colors, lights). The goal is to discover the surrounding world through questions, experimentation, trials, and consistency of trials, as well as to discover the inner world with a focus on the feeling of achievement, adaptability, management of frustrations, and changes.

The above is, of course, achieved through free wandering among the suggestions of stimuli, so that the child's personal choice leads the exploration and not the voice of some guiding omniscient other. I accompany the game by enhancing curiosity, following the child's suggestions, and discovering alongside them from the beginning. My suggestions are not instructions, but stimuli for the child to process and choose their actions.

Joint play with horizontal decision-making and mutual respect for boundaries. (We prepare to get dirty and make a mess, to mix materials, to try familiar objects in unusual ways. The cycle closes with the collection of items in the basket for cleanliness and with relief from the sensory stimulus while taking care of personal hygiene.)
