What is Play Therapy?
Play Therapy is a therapeutic approach for children, adolescents, and adults that uses play and creative arts as a medium. For children up to 12 years old, it is the only effective therapeutic approach. Play, in its many forms, becomes a means of expression as well as processing thoughts and emotions on both conscious and unconscious levels. The goal, beyond therapy, is the development of mental resilience in emotional and psychological difficulties, as well as the development of the child's potential.
How does Play Therapy work?
• The play therapist seeks to establish a warm and friendly relationship, showing complete acceptance, trust, respect, exclusivity, and following the child in their process.
• Through play therapy, children are given the opportunity to "reproduce" their feelings, experiences, and concerns within a therapeutic framework, with a therapeutic goal using their natural way of expression – play.
• Play and art are used as the main means for resolving psychosocial difficulties and behavioral problems.
