The best family activities for the October half term!

This October half term is a much-needed time to recharge your batteries and enjoy family life. There are plenty of exciting attractions out there – if your children think they’ve seen it all, they’re wrong… Read on, and start planning your next family adventure!

Escape & have lots of fun.

Escape games are popping up all over the UK. While most of the game rooms are oriented toward teenagers and grown-ups, there are also some rooms which are more suitable for children (with parental supervision). Ask the game providers to recommend something easy that you and your little ones can attempt together, and… solve the case!

*extra tip: Are you apprehensive at the thought of locking your little ones in a room for an hour? Well, escape rooms are usually great for older kids, so leave your really young ones at home with a babysitter.

Go to the Science Museum.

Power UP, 20-31 October: From Pacman to Pokémon, experience the history of gaming in this great event. There is something for everyone here – relive your childhood favourites, show your kids the games you grew up with, and test out some of the latest virtual reality experiences!

*extra tip: There are family discounts. Children aged 3 and under go free.

*Location: Exhibition Road, South Kensington, London, SW7 2DD.

Spring into action.

Keeping the kids entertained doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg; there’s never a dull moment when you take your tiny tots to a park. After all, the last few weeks in October are the best time for an autumn walk; make the most of it and get your family out for some fresh air. Plus, you’ll feel like a kid again if you scrunch through the fallen leaves!

*extra tip: If you work a lot, you can always let your babysitter take the kids out for a walk; a nearby park is certainly perfect for a stroll or a picnic.

Experience a full day out at Warwick Castle.

Explore Warwick Castle, where you’ll be surrounded by jaw-dropping history, magic, myth and adventure. Unravel history in the world’s first Horrible Histories adventure maze, invade a Viking ship, uncover evil plots, and see a huge catapult!  You can easily spend a whole day there…

*extra tip: Get the cheapest prices by booking online. Children aged 2 and under go free.

*Location: Warwick lies at the heart of Britain’s motorway network, less than two miles from junction 15 of the M40 providing easy access from London and Birmingham.

Watch a film.

Taking your to children to the movies is a great bonding experience. And there are some great new kid-friendly films to catch this half term!

*extra tip: Spot the bargain cinema ticket deals – there are lots of them for families.

Have fun in a magical way…

Something magical is coming to the British Library: the exhibition “Harry Potter – A History of Magic” opens on 20 October. Exploring the subjects studied at Hogwarts, the exhibition will also include original drafts and drawings by J.K. Rowling!

*Location: 96 Euston Road, London, NW1 2DB.

Introduce your kids to… some underwater friends.

Sea Life centres and sanctuaries across the UK offer your children the opportunity to meet amazing sea creatures. Let your little ones get closer than ever before to impressive sharks and cute penguins!

Εxplore your hometown.

Have you been to all the libraries and museums in your area? Probably not; maybe it’s time to start thinking like a tourist! Discovering the hidden gems in your town can be an exciting adventure for your kids. Just download a tourist map, and take in all these unique places that you usually ignore.

Go on a shopping spree.

Get your tiny tots ready for the cold weather ahead. Buy all the essentials like jackets and mittens, and get that warm and cuddly coat or snowsuit!

*extra tip: Kids love shopping… when you shop things for them, not you! If your day is filled with grocery shopping and to-buy lists, having a babysitter to take care of the little ones can be a life-saver!

Nannuka’s babysitters and nannies are by your side to make all those half term activities and trips easier for your family, if you can’t be with them all the time!
